Welcome to Lodge St Ayles
No. 95

About our Lodge

Lodge St Ayles was officially granted its Charter from The Grand Lodge of Scotland on the 21 May 1764, although the records of St Ayles themselves note Masonic activity earlier still. Indeed an extract from the Lodge history cites that, in Anstruther, on 3rd of February 1762

"A Body of Free Masons to the number of thirteen having mett, taking into their consideration the many inconveniencies they lay under by being at such a distance from their respective Lodges, unanimously agreed to errect a Lodge at Anstruther. In prosecution of which scheme they proceeded immediately to election of the proper officers for regulating the Lodge."

Over the past 257 years our lodge has made its home in several places within the Anstruther area - from Town Halls to Masonic Temples, even dwelling houses in its formative years. From East Green & the High Street, Cunzie Wynd and more.

Our current home is within the Town Hall of neighbouring Cellardyke where meetings are held regularly on the 3rd Friday of each month from September to April and often extending our season into May.

Like the town and locale our Lodge is both colourful and intimate, with a warmth of character typical to the East Neuk. Visitors are always welcome to St Ayles, and we hope that when you spend some time with us, it is one of both profit and pleasure.
